Row spacing

Knitting decrease calculator

Events = stitches to remove ÷ stitches removed each event. The row gap is the rows you have ÷ those events. Leftover rows are called out so you can place them yourself. This is a spacing plan, not a shaping pattern.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter both counts. Stitches to remove = current stitches minus the count you want.
  2. Set the event size. A paired decrease at each end removes 2 stitches. A single decrease removes 1.
  3. Read the gap. Floor(rows ÷ events) is the even gap. Remainder rows are extra and are not hidden.

Worked example

80 stitches down to 40 removes 40 stitches. At 2 stitches per event that is 20 events. Across 40 rows the even gap is 2 rows, with no remainder.

Common questions

What if the stitches do not divide evenly?

The page refuses a plan when stitches to remove is not a multiple of the event size. Change the event size or the target count.

Does this write the decrease round?

No. It only says how many events fit and how many rows sit between them.
