How it works
Four steps, one browser tab, no accounts. Use it to convert a picture into a crochet pattern from a JPEG, PNG or WebP you own.

Choose a picture
JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 25 MB. It is decoded with the browser’s own image decoder and scaled to a 1024 px working copy.
Set the size
Stitches across is yours to pick; rows come from the picture’s proportions. Each square averages the pixels underneath it.
Set the colours
Median cut splits the colour box along its widest side, again and again, until it has your count. No randomness, so the same inputs give the same palette.
Correct and save
Repaint any square, swap a palette colour for yarn you own, then save a PNG sheet or a one-page PDF with the legend.
Reading the chart
- Turn the image into a crochet graph: one square is one stitch, heavier lines mark every ten stitches, and letters match the legend so a grey print still reads.
- Colour count is yours to cap between 2 and 12; extra similar shades get merged.
- Gauge is not converted, so check a swatch before you trust the finished size. Edit any square, then save a PNG sheet or a one-page PDF with the legend.
What this MVP does not do
- Gauge is not converted. One square is one stitch, and stitches are rarely square — check your own swatch before trusting the finished size.
- Palette colours are plain descriptions. There is no yarn brand mapping and no claim of compatibility with any commercial colour standard.
- Undo covers square edits. Changing a palette colour or rebuilding the chart is not part of the undo history.
- Closing the tab clears unsaved changes. Download an editable chart file to keep your chart and open it here later.

Does my photo leave this page?
The picture is decoded and charted in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded automatically. Only if you turn on the optional image-preview checkbox and press Prepare AI draft is a reduced 512 px JPEG preview sent for that one request; the original and chart remain local.
What pictures can I use?
JPEG, PNG or WebP files up to 25 MB. Use a picture you own or are licensed to use. Large photos are scaled down in the tab before charting.
Does this map yarn to a commercial colour standard?
No. Palette colours are plain descriptions. There is no yarn brand mapping and no claim of compatibility with any commercial colour standard.
