Support

Help for the Stitchgrid workbench on imagetocrochetpattern.com and the private, local-first native iOS companion now being prepared. Everything on this page matches what the tools actually do today.

Getting started

Open the workbench from the homepage and press “Use the demo picture” to see a chart appear, then swap in a photo of your own. The workbench accepts JPEG, PNG or WebP files up to 25 MB — use a picture you own or are licensed to use. Two settings shape the chart: stitches across (16 to 120) and yarn colours (2 to 12). Rows follow the picture’s proportions and are capped at 220.

Photo-to-grid conversion

Each square averages the pixels underneath it, and median cut chooses the palette, so the same picture and settings always give the same chart. Large photos are scaled down in the tab before charting. If a chart looks muddy, try fewer colours or fewer stitches across; if it loses the subject, try more stitches across.

Editing your chart

Click or tap a square to repaint it with the active colour, or focus the chart and use the arrow keys, then Enter. Any palette colour can be swapped for the yarn you own — colour names are plain descriptions, with no claim about any yarn brand’s colour standard. Undo and redo cover square edits; rebuilding the chart with new settings clears them.

Saving and printing

The workbench saves a PNG sheet or a one-page PDF that includes the grid and a lettered legend, so a grey print still reads. Save before you close the tab: the browser workbench keeps nothing between visits. Gauge is not converted, so check your own swatch before trusting the finished size.

The native iOS companion

A private, local-first native app for iPhone and iPad is currently being prepared. Projects are saved locally on the device, and a saved project contains the grid, its label and export metadata — never your photo. It prepares bounded single-page PNG and PDF sheets with a title, ruled grid, symbols, legend and counts. App Store availability will be published here after the release process is complete.

Privacy

The browser workbench is a local-only tool: your picture is decoded in the tab, and after the page has loaded the app makes no network requests. No accounts, no uploads, no tracking. The privacy page has the full list.
